Text Box: B. URINE

The urine has laboratory differentiations which describe the color, usually yellow to amber, cloudy to clear, the odor, and specific gravity which ranges form 1.010 to 1.020. Note: Carefully note where the decimal goes –1.032.

The following table lists the various tests which are done on a microscopic urinalysis.

The microscopic examination of urine looks for results associated with the following terms (sometimes abbreviated – see abbreviation list):

1. pH

2. Casts

3. Hyaline

4. Granular

5. fatty

6. White cell casts

7. Pus cells

8. RBCs

9. WBCs

10. Epithelial cells

Note: Here we reiterate: Knowing these terms, as with all of the terms, abbreviations, short usages, values and expressed-in values, or being able to refer to them (i.e., in this book), prepares you to quickly identify the correct terms in your mind reviewing or transcribing a report that includes the results of urine tests.
