A tour through a radiology department makes one acutely aware of the dramatic progress, which as been made in this field. Television screens permit physicians to monitor radiographic examinations in a room removed from the patient. Contrast media and fluoroscopy allow studying of organs, anatomic spaces, blood vessels and soft tissues. CAT (computerized axial tomography), radionuclide scanning, and ultra-sound are fairly recent additions to the magic of diagnostics.
